Graeme Roche Biography
Graeme Roche was an exciting and innovative artist of unique quality. The iconography of the work affirmed his place in Australian heritage.
Graeme was born in Melbourne in 1944, and had many careers before taking up art including training as pilot and chef. When he moved too Queensland in the early 70’s, Graeme developed a strong interest in painting and quickly showed a great talent.
In 1980’s Graeme visited to Europe broadened his artistic experience after which he returned to Melbourne to live. He was constantly fascinated with the dramatic effect of light and mood on otherwise ordinary and familiar objects, creating evocative and enigmatic images in the surreal tradition.
He was married to Gill Del-Mace and died of lung cancer in 1995.
